What to wear for your family photo session
A simple way to coordinate outfits so your family photos look polished, not matchy.

Coordinating outfits is the question I get most before a family session. Here’s the approach that works almost every time.
Start with one piece
Pick one outfit you love, often mom’s dress or a patterned shirt, and build everyone else’s colors from it. Two or three colors from that piece is plenty.
Coordinate, don’t match
Matching white tops and jeans can look dated. Mix textures (knits, linen, denim) and shades of the same color instead.
Avoid big logos and neon
Logos pull the eye and neon colors reflect onto skin. Soft neutrals, muted earth tones and dusty blues photograph beautifully in every season.
Think about the setting
Golden fields love warm creams and rust. The studio’s neutral backdrops work with almost anything, and for maternity sessions you can choose from my gown collection.
Comfort wins
If the kids are comfortable, they’ll play, and that’s when the best photos happen. Bring a backup outfit for little ones.
